I have approached a dog behaviourist before, who was able to analyse my Romanian rescue dog's behaviour well enough, but the advice I was given was not realistic for me to put into practice. I thought I would always have to endure my dog's anxiety and fear-aggression. And then, finally, he bit someone's ankle in a cafe. This person was old and very angry and unforgiving. I was utterly devastated. He had been on his lead, under the table, and hadn't moved a muscle until that moment. I knew I had to give this one more chance, or reluctantly accept that he simply wouldn't be able to join me anywhere, other than on the lead in the fields for his daily walks. I came across Devon Dog Training's various posts and I am so very happy that I got in touch. Daryl is brilliant. I cannot sufficiently sing his praises. As mentioned, my dog is incredibly nervous.
He's the dog that barks non-stop every time a car drives by our garden, and then doesn't stop until it has disappeared. He barks relentlessly at the postman and snaps at guests who come into our house. I have to walk him on the lead all the time, because I can't guarantee that he won't bite someone else's ankles. And I was not getting any joy out of our relationship at all - to be truthful, he was becoming a bit of a burden and I could feel myself starting to resent him. The reality is that none of this is Boddington's fault. I always knew that I could do better - I just didn't know how. This is where Daryl came in. He is non-judgmental, he is not patronising or condescending, and he could see the potential in Bod. He devised a plan that we would work with over a period of time, confident that he would lose his anxiety and turn into a happy, secure little dog.
That plan is ongoing, but the change already has been quite remarkable. Friends that haven't seen him for a while have been staggered by the change in him. I can now take him on runs with me, and feel safe that he will not suddenly pounce at someone's trouser leg. I cannot describe the difference this has made to my relationship with him. There is still work to do (he still hates the postman!) but I feel so very confident that the changes are permanent and genuine. If you are looking for someone to really get to grips with your dog, to help you assert yourself as its owner, and alter your dog's behaviour, then I simply cannot recommend Devon Dog Training more highly.

"I contacted Devon Dog training as we had a lovely 6 month old Labrador who was starting to rule our house he was a lovely boy but was not listening to me. Daryl was fantastic he started with the basics in the home, feeding and observing all the family with Gus and pinpointed some areas to work on. Within a week we had removed the stair gate and after a couple of attempts at coming upstairs Gus will now not even place a paw on the bottom step, instead of following me around the kitchen and licking the dishwasher he now doesn’t come in (our house is open plan,
I never thought I’d keep him out!). Daryl came back to help us iron out a few minor issues but we have an amazing family dog who is part of our family and enjoyable rather than taking over our family. "We got in touch with Devon Dog Training because our two Chihuahuas were driving us crazy. We’d had them from about 2 years old (now 6) and they had come from difficult pasts. Both had fear aggression towards dogs, cyclists, pedestrians, runners, bin bags...you name it! We had been working with our dogs one on one for a few weeks and there was some improvement but it was limited and we were getting frustrated. My fiancé and I were even having big rows about them! We were living an episode of ‘it’s me or the dog’!
We had worked with a dog trainer before, but they turned up with a reactive dog to work with our reactive dogs and it really put us off. However, Since working with Daryl at Devon Dog Training, our fur babies have massively improved. Our house is 90% quieter (reduced barking at the window/ door/ in the garden at neighbours) and we are even walking them off lead together around farm animals and other dogs. We still have some work to do, but we’re confident that, with Daryl’s continued support, we’re going to have model dogs in no time! We wouldn’t hesitate to recommend his services.

"We got in touch with Daryl to help us with our two Sprockers as we didn’t have the right pack order in our house. Not only this but we wanted to crate train them which we’d never done before and didn’t think we’d have much chance given they are 3 & 5 years old. HOWEVER, after 1 session we noticed the difference in days, after another couple we were confident to start using crates.
